Simple Watercolor Backgrounds

Hello, crafty friends. I have two cards to share today with the same design, but two different color combinations…

To create the watercolor pieces, I started by taping down THIS paper with THIS tape to a hard board. I scribbled stripes of colors on each panel with THESE markers and added water to blend the colors a bit. Once it was dry and I added some of THIS on top, I clear heat embossed THIS background (one of my all time favorite backgrounds).

I went back over the entire piece with clean water to lighten the areas around the embossed image. The darker color is trapped under the clear embossing powder as is revealed when the water is added on top. It’s so fun…like magic.

I trimmed down the background pieces and adhered them on to the card bases with THIS for dimension after stamping a sentiment from THIS stamp set. I finished off the card with some sequins.

I hope this has inspired you to try this technique. It can be done with a variety of water based mediums.

Thanks so much for visiting today. Happy crafting!
