Tips for Masculine Cards

Hello, crafty friends. It’s Father’s Day so I thought it would be a good time to share some tips when creating cards for guys. First, let me tell you how I created today’s card…

To create this card, I started by stamping an older background stamp ( on gray cardstock with gray ink for a tone on tone look. I stamped the rock border from THIS stamp set along the bottom to complete the scene. I adhered it to a top folding white note card and cut the bottom of the front panel only at the top of the rock images. I adhered the rock strip that I cut off to the inside bottom of the card. This creates a seamless look for the background but also creates an unexpected opening…

Next, I cut a small thin strip to adhere along the bottom of the front opening and then adhered THIS sentiment cut with THIS and THIS glossy cardstock on top I only added adhesive to the top portion since the bottom of the die cut word hangs off the edge a bit.

I adhered the “rock” sentiment from THIS stamp set on the rock image portion.

I stamped the same rock border stamp along the flap of the envelope to tie everything together…

Tips for Masculine Cards:
*Keep it Simple. Less is sometimes better. I didn’t use any embellishments on today’s card. I also used a tone on tone color design. Super simple.

*Personalize it. Think of the person you are creating for. Masculine cards do not have to be a “masculine” theme. Maybe whoever you are making the card for loves flowers, then add flowers. It doesn’t matter the theme, try to personalize it to their liking. Maybe their favorite color or what they do for a job. For example, today’s card was created for my future daughter in law’s father. He is a geologist so I thought the “you rock” sentiment would be perfect for him.

*Finishing Touches. As I mentioned above, I like to keep masculine cards simple. However, you can step up the design with finishing touches. For example, on today’s card, I die cut the sentiment using specialty cardstock. I used white and black glossy cardstock. It adds shine and elevates a simple die cut word. I also added a small strip of black glossy cardstock along the bottom of the flap opening. Another finishing touch that adds a lot to the overall design.

*Unexpected element. While it’s great to keep it simple, it’s always nice to step it up a bit with an unexpected element. For today’s card, it was a unique card opening.

I hope this has inspired you to create a masculine card.
