Creating a focal point with Masking

Hello. The Little Tangles Challenge Blog is hosting a masking challenge this month HERE and I wanted to share the two cards I created for it. I used masking to create a focal point…

I started with one of THESE kraft note cards and placed a heart mask in the center. I created the mask cutting one of THESE dies out of  THIS masking paper. I placed the die right on top of the masked pieces and ran it through my Big Shot with THIS embossing mat. I did this to give a nice embossed outline around the heart.
For the backgrounds, I stamped one of the sentiments repeatedly across the masked heart using THIS white ink. For the other card, I applied the same ink through THIS stencil. When i removed the mask, it creates a perfect focal point for the colored images in THIS set. Isn’t that stamp set adorable!? I finished off the card by rounding the bottom corners and adding some of THIS for shine on certain parts of the colored pieces.
Here’s a closer look…

I hope you play along in the Masking challenge HERE. The winner gets a stamp set of their choice from Neat and Tangled!
Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a great day.

They are adorable! I have left this in my inbox for a few weeks so that I could have a proper read of it when I had a few minutes. The additional embossing really highlights those cute little images. Beautifully done 🙂

  2. Wow, Heather! Your card is so good, I am thinking, why didn't I think of those simple and neat backgrounds myself! I love that you've used the kraft bases, and the hearts look so great on them! Thanks for the inspiration!! 🙂
