Hi and welcome. Today I’m sharing my project for the second week of my guest designing spot over on the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Blog.
The challenge this week is “Things that Fly” featuring American Crafts products. I decided to do a new spin on a technique that Jennifer McGuire shared HERE. She shared a technique where you ink up a wood embellishment and emboss it, creating a faux letterpress. I decided to use VersaMark ink instead so I could do some embossing. It’s such a cool effect with the dry embossing. Check it out…
For my first card…
…I used the largest butterfly from
THIS wood embellishment pack and covered it with VersaMark ink. I placed it in the center of a piece of watercolor cardstock with washi tape and ran it through my die-cut machine with an embossing mat. I applied
THIS embossing powder on top and heat embossed it. It gives a faux foiled look that is so pretty in real life.
I die-cut
THIS die using black cardstock and adhered it over the butterfly. I stamped a sentiment underneath that using black ink and adhered the panel to a black, top folding note card. Here’s a closer look…
For my second card…
…I did the same technique but using the smaller wood embellishments in the pack. I stamped a sentiment from
THIS set using black ink. I adhered it to the edge of a black note card. Oh, and make sure you use some type of anti-static tool before embossing when trying this technique.
A closer look…
I also have a bonus card for you! When experimenting with this technique, I fell in love with the embossing powder and wanted to see how it looked on the wood embellishment itself….
I really like that THIS paper pad has little sentiments that you can cut apart. I used one for my greeting. I added it and the butterfly wrapped with THIS thread on to my card along with a vellum circle cut with THIS die, some epoxy circles, and did some spray misting on a piece of the patterned paper (in the same paper pad).
A closer look at the butterfly…
I just love how the texture of the wood comes through. Pretty.
