Coloring with Shimmer Pens

Hello. Today’s cards features coloring with shimmer pens….

I get a lot of questions about which shimmer pens I like. So, before I get to how I created these cards, I want to share a bit about the shimmer pens I use. I use THIS Wink of Stella Clear Brush Marker and THIS Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle Pen often to add a bit of shine to my cards. It seems like a small detail, but it really helps make any card pop.
Both pens are great but I did do a swatch on dark cardstock to show the difference between them…
The Spectrum Noir shimmer pen seems to be more on the cool/silver side as opposed to the Wink of Stella pen which seems to be more on the warm/gold side. Again, both pens are fabulous but I find I use them for different looks as I would my Copics. For example, for my Copics I have warm grays and cool grays. This is the same concept. It’s just my personal opinion but I thought I’d share here in case you’ve never used a shimmer pen and wanted a closer look at each.
Okay, back to the cards….

I started by gold and silver heat embossing the unicorn image and sentiment from THIS set on THIS cardstock. I used a variety of ink colors (all listed below) with THIS stamp set to create a rainbow of “fairy dust” to draw your eye in. I colored this unicorn with a coating of THIS shimmer pen.
Here’s a closer look…
It was so difficult to photograph, but it gives a great shine. Another thing that the camera didn’t capture well is the embossed image of THESE scalloped dies around the image. It gives a nice bit of interest without overpowering the card.I love using THIS embossing mat with my Big Shot to get the embossed look. I mounted the whole piece onto a piece of gold foil paper and rounded two corners with THIS
I did the same thing with the silver card…

…but used THIS shimmer pen to color in the unicron and adhered everything to a piece of THIS glitter paper.

I hope this inspires you to color an image with a shimmer pen and add some sparkle to your next project.
Oh, and these cards are part of a fun color combo challenge over on the Little Tangles Challenge Blog HERE. I hope you can play along!
Thanks so much for visiting today. Have a great day!
