Playing with Distress Oxide Ink

Hello and welcome. I had fun experimenting with THESE new Distress Oxide Inks over the weekend. To be honest, I was on the fence about them. I wasn’t sure I “needed” them, but I was wrong. Very wrong. 🙂

I started by just experimenting and making some backgrounds. I applied the ink to THIS craft sheet and then sprayed with water. I swiped THIS cardstock through the ink and dried with my heat gun, spraying water with THIS while drying.

There are many things that sold me on these inks. The first is the finished look. It gives a really cool and unique chalk-like finish when it dries. Another thing I love is they are perfect to heat emboss with… the color intensifies too! I also really like that because these inks are a hybrid of pigment and dye, they will show up on dark cardstock.

Here’s a closer look at each card. I list the color combos under each picture…

Fired Brick, Spiced Marmalade, and Worn Lipstick

Broken China and Cracked Pistachio

Broken China, Cracked Pistachio, and Wilted Violet

Fired Brick, Spiced Marmalade, Fossilized Amber, Cracked Pistachio, Broken China, and Wilted Violet

Broken China, Faded Jeans, and Cracked Pistachio
I die-cut the largest heart from THESE dies using THIS cardstock and used it to frame the backgrounds.
For the sentiments, I die-cut THESE dies from white cardstock. I applied different colors of Distress Oxide Inks on top using an ink blending tool. I added clear embossing on top and heat set to create some shine and intensify the color. Here’s a closer look…

I hope you consider giving these inks a try. They are so fun to play with!

These are beautiful. Did you cut out the sentiments first then color and clear emboss them?

You can really see the effects of the inks in your cards Heather, beautiful cards and really good pictures of them. I am sure I will give in and buy some of these! They do look so interesting, and I like the softness of the chalk finish. Thanks for sharing with us….

I hope you don't mind I just shared your blog post in a reply on Facebook. I too didn't want to think I "needed" these. I finally caved when I saw Jennifer's video. Your cards are also super! =)
