Second Generation Embossing

Hello. Thanks for joining me today. I apologize for the lack of posting this past week. My computer was acting up and I had to take it in to get fixed. Boy, I didn’t realize how much I needed it until it was gone!

Anyway, today I wanted to share a technique I like to call, “Second Generation Embossing”. I found this by accident when I went to emboss with my die-cutting machine and had two papers stuck together. When I peeled the papers apart after embossing with THIS die, this is what they looked like…

The one on the left is the first generation of embossing and the one on the right is the second generation of embossing. I used the second generation piece on my card today. I really like how it gives great texture but has a softer feel than the first generation since it had less pressure on it. It’s similar to when you do generation stamping. The first impression is solid and crisp and the second is lighter.

Here’s my card using this technique for the background…

I embossed the background using my die-cutting machine and THIS embossing mat. Like I mentioned, two of THESE watercolor cardstock pieces were stuck together as I ran it through. You could do this technique with any paper. Try experimenting but remember, never force anything through your machine. If it’s not turning, stop and remove a piece. You don’t want to risk breaking your machine.

I die-cut the awesome sentiment out of pink fun foam for dimension and die-cut the shadow of the word using THIS masking paper. I laid it down in the center of the background and applied Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry, and Barn Door Distress Ink with an ink blending tool. I used THIS sprayer to add water droplets on to the ink to create “bleached” spots. I finished off the card by adding gold stars cut using THIS die and gold glitter paper. I added a coat of THIS on top for some shine. I stamped the coordinating sentiment from THIS stamp set underneath using THIS tool.

This card was created for the Little Tangles Challenge this month…

To create this card, I stamped THIS sunray background using THIS ink. After stamping, coloring and cutting out the adorable weight lifting guy from THIS set, I adhered him down under THIS die-cut word (that I cut from black fun foam) to look like he was holding it up. I finished off the card by stamping a coordinating sentiment from THIS set above the die-cut word and adding a few enamel stars. I just love how well all of the different Neat and Tangled products work so well together.
