Mirror Stamping and Spinner Cards

Hi there. I’m a guest over on the Skipping Stones Design Blog and there is hop today sharing some crafty tips/techniques. The technique I want to share is mirror stamping. Mirror stamping is not a new technique, but I wanted to share how well it works when creating spinner cards, like this one….
First, how adorable is that bird image and sentiment? I just love it and thought it would be fun to make the bird spin to resemble flying or being really excited about that french fry! 😉 You can see it in action HERE.
I wanted the bird image to have a backing that matched so it wouldn’t look unfinished when spinning. To do this, I needed a mirror image of the bird. By stamping the image on a piece of acetate with a pigment ink (which stays wet longer and is perfect for this technique), I was able to use the acetate like a stamp and press the image on to a piece of white cardstock….
It’s hard to get a crisp image like the original, but I just used a black marker to correct any issues. After coloring in both images and fussy cutting them out, I adhered them together, placing a piece of fishing line between them. I like to use fishing line when creating spinner cards because it’s clear and not very noticeable. I finished off the card by white heat embossing that fun sentiment on to a piece of black cardstock. An orange, epoxy heart was the perfect finishing touch.
Here’s a closer look at the card…

Another tip I have is to stretch your stamps. I used THIS stamp set and stamped the bra straps to create french fries to put in the bird’s mouth. I encourage you to take a second look at your stamp sets to get more use from them.

I hope this has inspired you to try mirror stamping with your spinner cards. Click HERE for the next stop on the blog hop. Thanks so much for stopping by and happy hopping!

Love your spinner card! What a great idea to use acetate instead of another stamp! I struggled to find a stamp that would work but I think the acetate will work much better!
