Simon Says Stamp Stamptember- Day One

Some of you may have seen all my sneak peeks for Simon Says Stamp’s Stamptember release on my Instagram. They were so sweet (pun intended) to send me this I Love Donuts Stamp Set to play with…

Come on! How cute is that!!!!? So I’ve been making a ton of cards and thought I would share a card each day this week featuring this stamp set. Here is today’s card…

I started out by stamping the large donut with THIS brown ink on some Neenah cardstock. Then I colored in the outer ring of the donut with the brown from THIS colored pencil set. It has a redish tone to it that makes the perfect donut color. Then i discovered that I had circle punches that were the exact size of the outer and inner circle of the donut, which made cutting them out quick and easy.
I decided to create the icing from Embossing Paste, which was inspired by Jennifer McGuire’s ice cream card HERE. She has a great video demonstrating this technique. I highly encourage you to watch it if you haven’t already. I started off with white embossing paste and added some walnut stain distress ink to it to achieve the chocolate icing and mixed some worn lipstick with it to get the strawberry icing. I added some epoxy sprinkle stickers to it before it dried. The embossing paste acts like cement and holds them really well.
After applying glossy accents to the outer ring of the donut, I decided to repeatedly stamp the wavy line from the set to create my own background. I used Bubble GumSoft Yellow, Soft Green, and Soft Pool inks from Hero Arts. I added a heart image from another Simon Says Stamp set to complete the background and coordinate with the sentiment. Speaking of the sentiment, it was stamped in black on a white banner that I adhered a hot pink mat behind.
I’ll be back tomorrow with another card featuring this set…
